Welcome to St AndrewsSt Andrews holds a special place in Scotland's history. It takes its name from the Apostle whose relics, legend tells us, were brought to this place in antiquity by St Rule. Scotland later adopted St Andrew as her patron saint and took his saltire cross for her flag. St Andrews university, founded in 1410-11, is the third oldest in Britain. As you might expect, St Andrews offers a vast choice of hotels, restaurants, pubs and cafes for eating out. Whether you prefer a high class hotel restaurant or the ambience of an eatery popular with the student population, you'll never need to eat in the same place twice. The Home of GolfFor many visitors, it's a game that draws them here, for St Andrews is the home of golf, the sport having been played here for some 600 years. The Old Course is arguably the most famous golf course in the world, and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club is still the ruling body for the rules of golf. Fittingly, the Old Course hosted the Open during the millennium year and did so again in 2005. Welcome to DundeeDundee - City of Discovery is the jewel of North East of Scotland. In a setting on the banks of the River Tay described by actor and raconteur Stephen Fry as 'ludicrously ideal'. Discovery Quay on Dundee's waterfront tells the extraordinary story of the Royal Research Ship Discovery and its historic voyage to the Antarctic under the command of Captain Robert Falcon Scott. Verdant Works - named European Industrial Museum of the Year in 1999 - is housed within a refurbished former jute mill and recounts Dundee's time at the centre of the global textiles industry. Sensation in Dundee's Greenmarket is Britain's only science centre dedicated to the five senses. Dundee Contemporary Arts has established an international reputation for excellence in the arts and attracts more than 300,000 visitors annually. HM Frigate Unicorn berthed at Dundee's Victoria Dock is the oldest wooden constructed 'man o' war' still afloat, dating back to 1824. Once you have finished educating yourself within this fabulous city you can relax in one of its numerous restaurants, bars, hotels or why not try one of the many night clubs on offer. And there is More .......Just 45 minutes drive from St Andrews and you are in Scotland's Capital City, Edinburgh. It is impossible to get bored in this magnificent city, for more information on what is going on visit www.scotland-edinburgh.co.uk |
